Drop-Down Support For Inline Editing#592

D

Up until version 7.3, I was able to use dropdown fields with inline editing seamlessly. It was an awesome feature that I use on several websites. It was perfect for quickly changing a field from one preset value to another without having to go through the hassle of opening the popup editor when you only need to change one field. A good example of this would be a status field, where you could double click a cell set to “No” or “Inactive” and change it to “Yes” or “Active”. I will add a screenshot of it in use on one of my sites running version 7.2. Being able to limit the options a customer can choose while inline editing was super nice. I have some tables where this status field is the only thing I allow customers to control, and its not very intuitive having to open the popup editor for one field.

Long story short, version 7.3 brought some issues with this feature, and after talking with support I was informed that: “For inline editing, dropdowns were never designed to work in this “editor mode.” They are intended to work only in the standard popup modal editing, at least for now. Because of this, the developers plan to fully disable dropdowns in inline editing in one of the future updates.”

They weren’t able able to provide a timeline of when, or even a guarantee this was going to happen, but I was told that the best way to help influence their decision would be to submit a feature request, so that is what I am doing! We love this functionality and would love to see it work again!

Thank you so much for your dedication and attention.
I think, as far as my usage is concerned, the problem is different.
In fact, inline changes with cascading controls work in tables.
The problem is that, in the table inserted in a page created with Elementor or other methods, they no longer work. I therefore believe it’s a problem with the integration of WpDataTables with Elementor or with WordPress in general. In fact, there are other problems that arise from time to time.
For example, the control to display 10, 50, 100, or all rows in the Elementor table doesn’t work, and this is really inconvenient.
